Alain Bornain, a renowned artist, is involved in a multidisciplinary and pictorial practice around the questions of image and language. His main artistic concerns are temporality, memory, disappearance and existence.

His gestural painting is an abstract expressionism. Memory is grafted onto it. Traces of the past, fragments of photographs, words, images of life, are the sign of an increased reflection on his favourite themes. Alain Bornain particularly likes to materialise the inevitable passing of time through his work.

His innovative and unclassifiable work goes against the grain of the dominant aesthetic of the time, claiming a great formal freedom that is expressed through a plurality of media - painting, sculpture, video, installation, environment, performance.
His works are distinguished by a preponderant use of the possibilities of erasure, covering, obliteration, serialization... which aim to lead to an aesthetic of dissimulation, even disappearance.
The field of signs, of writing, has a determining place in his work. The recurrent use of words borrowed from the aesthetic vocabulary: Image, idea, æsthetica, painting... but also DNA codes (A-C-G-T), chromosomal codes (X-Y) or the numbers of time (12:25...), are all materials that allow him to convey notions dear to his work. A way of reminding us of the fragility and ephemeral nature of things, insisting on the notions of memory and the passing of time.
